From farther apart to nearby
The guidance changes.
Your goal doesn’t.
You never pick a technology. The app uses the best thing available at that distance and hands over between them on its own. Only the finder’s plan matters; the person being found can be on Standard.
01Farther apart · GPS
Plus · finder only
A shared spot.
A place to start.
When both phones are online, a Plus finder sees a permitted spot with its age and accuracy, then follows a map or an arrow toward it. The person being found can be on the free Standard plan.

02Getting closer · Bluetooth
Standard · free for everyone
Less distance.
More connection.
Bluetooth is the base connection and is included in the free Standard plan for both phones. The moment the two phones hear each other, the remaining location requests stop and nearby guidance takes over.
Nearby finding works offline after setup.
03Final stretch · Compatible UWB
Plus · compatible phones
A little more
precision.
A Plus finder with a supported phone adds precise nearby ranging, accurate to about a step. Both phones need the hardware. Direction appears only when the phone supplies a real direction measurement.

Bluetooth distance is an estimate, not a precise direction. Wi-Fi distance can give a measured distance when Bluetooth is disconnected on supported Android 13+ phones. Walls, crowds, hardware and phone settings can affect every connection.
In short: Standard is free and includes one trusted connection with Bluetooth finding, and the Wear OS watch app is free too. Plus adds GPS finding, Wi-Fi distance and compatible UWB precision on phones that support them, more trusted people, Group Find, offline maps, and saved messages. Compare Standard and Plus.
